The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

I wasn't expecting much from this movie,

even tho I really loved Deja Vu from Tony Scott. So a few guy hijack an undergournd train in New York. This seems a bit dull, but I loved this movie. I mean, everything was great about it. Well except the parts where the money was delivered to the station, because those parts were way too loud, and a bit out of the whole "lot of talking, less action" style of the movie.

Catch Me If You Can

It was better the first time.

When I first watched it, I was amazed. Now I've seen it 2 times, and this time the twists and the story didn't affect me ofc. At the end I found it even a bit unnatural the stuff that Frank pulled off, and while it was fun to watch the stuff he did, the movie didn't really told the viewer, that stealing millions of dollars is a crime. Acting is great, I mean I really belived that DiCaprio was a 17 year old guy playing a 3X year old pilot, he is just that good. Perfect choice for this part.

The Hangover

Best comedy of 2009?

I liked The proposal more. But it's good for a few laughs and it has a pretty original story, well as far as a "I can't remember what happened last night" story can have. Maybe some find it the best of 2009, I haven't seen that many from this year.
But the ending credits with the photos was over the top awesome.

Bangkok Dangerous

Nicolas Cage as a hitman?

Meh. So there is an original one, made in Thailand, I've yet to see that one, it's probably better than this. But it was ok. But if it wasn't for Cage, I wouldn't have watched this one. But still, a decent action movie with a lot of shooting n stuff exploding, I kinda liked it, but nothing special. The ending was simply stupid. Spoiler alert! Didn't he have 2 bullets left in that pistol? I mean, if he is such a pro he should have checked that the bad evil whoever it was is really dead, but you can't do that with a hole in your head... It's just stupid, even if it looked kinda "cool". But I like it more in Diary of the Dead when the amish guy killed that zombie with the scyte the same way. At least that was funny and that wasn't the main character of the story....

Angels & Demons

Not for me.

There are movies/stories that some may like some will hate. The directing was good, the acting was ok, but it was even more stupid than the prequel of this one. Srsly, antimatter exploding in Rome.. Spoilers? I might put out some serious plotholes, and stupid things but I don't feel like doing so.
I didn't have a lot of expectations with this movie, but I really regret watching it. I should have watched National Treasure again instead....

Inglourious Basterds

If it wasn't a Tarantio movie people would hate it without exceptions.

But it is, and that is why this movie is SO OVERRATED. If you don't know what hype is, this movie is. It is NOT a good film. First of all, it has almost nothing to do with the 'Inglorious Basterds'. It had some good parts yes, but in general, it was boring as hell and stupid. Just becuse Tarantino directed it that doesn't mean it is a good movie. Brad Pitt I like, but here... He had a bad accent, and didn't feel his character, but that is not his fault. He did his best, but his character was so poorly written this was the best he could do with it. There was only 1 real character in the movie the nazi played by Cristoph Waltz, the rest were faces and names, nothing else. Most of the movie was in german and french, it was really good to hear languages spoken that well in an american movie, but that doesn't make it good. And just becuse The Dirty Dozen was a good movie this ripoff is NOT. Plus it has nothing to do with history, but that's not a bad thing in itself, but if you make a movie that has some real names like Hitler in it, it should have at least some connection to reality. I highly recommend to skip this movie or if you decide to watch it anyhow become a hardcore Tarantino fan or just have more popcorn than expectation. BTW after seeing that this movie is in the top 100 on IMDb I guess if Tarantino did a movie that had nothing but a stinking piece of shit shown for 120 minutes, most people would call it art and it would become a blockbuster on the first week.....

Jackie Brown (1997)

In my opinion Tarantino's best.

After Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction it's a really slow and boring movie, but I didn't like the other 2 that much. This is a good movie, with a good 70s feelings to it. A bit slow at some points, but the characters and the acting is superb. The story could be more eventful, but the real charm of the movie is the atmosphere it creates.
Hardcore Tarantino fans will probably say it is one of his weaker works, but I'm anything but a fan of him, so I enjoyed this movie very much.

15 Minutes

A flick on the media.

So 2 russian guys (obviously the bad ppl... stereotypes...) come to New York to make a living there by collecting some money, but instead they go on a killing spree and film the whole thing becuse they are both mentally ill...
A lot of stereotypes in this movie. Eastern Europen people are always bad and so on and so on. If we put the story aside we get the meaning of this movie, that America is the land of opportunities and there are a lot of stupid things in american law and also how one can use the media as a weapon. This is good, but the rest is just not like how it would be in real life.
A huge plus for me is that Kata Dobo starred in the film. All she got was 1 line. Why does this mean anything to me? Becuse she is considered to be a famous actress here in Hungary and she went to the USA to become an actress in the early 2000s.. This is pretty much where she got there with her dreams. It's really funny if you get the message of the movie :)

Goodfellas

This is what a gangster movie should be like.

Not the Godfather but a really good movie. Great lines, great acting, great story. This is a must watch, I just don't want to spoil the story or anything.. Maybe a quote can say more than me: "As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster."

The Untouchables

Saw this like 10 years ago, liked it a lot.

And that feeling haven't changed at all. It is a good movie about Al Capone from a cop's point of view. It has it all, good characters, good scenes, good acting and everything. A bit clishé at some points but never the less good. Go ahead and watch it!

Public Enemies

Just no...

I am not going to cry about how it is not about the real Dillinger and that this movie is mostly fiction. Depp is a good actor, but him as Dillinger doesn't work good in my opinion. The picture sometimes feels like it is a home video so shaky and stuff like that. The quality is just not like what a movie should be maybe becuse of the digital cameras. The story is stupid, the main character is stupid and the whole thing is just stupid. Anyways, this is not a good movie. Go watch The Godfather or Goodfellas if you want to see a good gangser movie.

Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie

Another disney series on the big screen.

But compared to the Hannah Montana movie which I haven't reviewed on this blog yet this one was actually good. It had an interesting (and not stupid) story, that was well told in the 90 or so minutes. It had character development, adventure, and magic :)
I don't know who the target audience is (maybe the 14 or so year olds) but I don't really care. I enjoyed this one, and 'Will I watch it again?' Yes, I will.

Good Will Hunting

How come I haven't seen this one before?

Well, most of my friends told me it's an awesome film, a 'gotta watch'. Have to agree with them, it was really good. The story was well witten, the characters were in the right place, the acting was nothing I have imagined, I mean.. Robin Williams was SO good.. I've always known that he is an awesome actor, but I think this might have been his best performance ever. And Matt Damon, you gotta love him, he is really good. So if for nothing else, see this movie for these two.
Will I watch it again? It's not a movie one watches every year, so maybe some years later, but I think I will.

Star Trek (2009)

Gotta love it or hate it.

Or just settle in the middle.. I am not that much of a harcore Trekkie, but saw most of the series, some of the movies etc, etc... First thing occured to me was that, wait.. Kirk's father died like that? Second was listening to Bestie Boys in the 23rd century and driving a 200+ year old car (or a replica)? VULCAN GOT REPLACED BY A BLACK HOLE? OOOOH, OOOOOOOH! So it's an alternate timeline? (sorry for the spoilers) But srsly... What the F? This was a huge minus point for me. I mean, if they ever continue with these actors another movie, which timeline will it be? And.... AAAAH.. This is just.. Nevermind.
Visuals were totally ok, CGI was over the top, but next time go easy on the lens flare.. I mean, I was blinded every 2nd minute so it got kinda old fast. And action scenes in a ST film is ok by me, I mean we all know Kirk likes to punch people and is good with the ladys, so the characters and actors were really good. 'Damit Jim I'm a doctor...' Enough, rating now.
But the question first: Will I watch it again? Maybe.

Mostly Ghostly

Well I haven't been blogging in 10 days or so, but watched 4 movies in the meantime, so these will come now.

Mostly ghostly is another random disney movie, but it was mostly not good. OK, it's not just a disney movie but some coprod whatever, don't really care. It's an adaptation of a book I will probably never read, not becuse it's not ment to be read by my generation, but becuse after seeing this movie I doubt I want to do it. Major problems with the movie? Can't decide if the acting or the directing was worse.. Well the special effets were also not that special. Though Sterling Beaumon did pretty good despite the script and everything else... So kudos to him.
Will I watch it again? No.
